This illustration triptych was done during my 2018 summer trip to Japan. It was my first time to go to the country, and the exciting memories now still come to my mind from time to time. Japan is such a multi-faceted country whereas every side of it is so different to the places I have been to.
This triptych depicts three different scenes I often saw in Japan that impressed me the most: the city streets and railways under blue sky during daytime; the sacred shrine serenely surrounded by trees; the bustling commercial streets crowded with restaurants and entertainments at night.
Although the depictions of some details may not be accurate, I aim to capture the overall ambience.
